Using High Accuracy GNSS with Dot3D
Automatically augment your Dot3D (PRIME) scans with high accuracy GNSS / RTK hardware (Trimble DA2, Leica FLX100 plus, etc.)
With Dot3D 6.0 and up, several high-accuracy GNSS receivers can now be integrated as part of your Dot3D scanning workflow. Connect directly to select GNSS receivers to automatically read in real-time global positioning information during scanning. The benefits of this new capability include:
1. Automatic positioning of the entire point cloud into geospatial coordinate systems
2. Automatic accuracy improvement within each point cloud whenever applicable
So, not only are you gaining automatic global positioning of your scans to highly accurate GNSS/RTK coordinates, but you’re also improving the local accuracy of your Dot3D scans automatically, whenever applicable. This automatic weighting of the GNSS data is where Dot3D’s optimization really stands out. GNSS/RTK signal quality can often vary greatly over the course of a scan trajectory, but Dot3D takes all this into account automatically. Scan with confidence knowing Dot3D will automatically leverage each GNSS point appropriately, only impacting your optimization where it can help, and not where it can’t.
So, while every scan captured with external GNSS enabled will gain highly accurate global positioning, certain scans will particularly benefit from internal accuracy improvements as well. Examples of such scans include lengthy outdoor scenes, such as highway crash scenes, long trenches, other outdoor utilities, and more.
